Loved the feel of the rod got some bass and some bluegills on it but after 2 weeks went to pick up the rod from the grass the rod snapped so easy. A foot down from the tip on a 6’6 rod very sad

Caveat Emptor

I gave it a one-star rating because that is as low as the system goes.

I was initially excited to put this rod to use on some local crappies and perch as it had a nice balance and feel to it. On my very first cast the rod broke about 20" from the top, using 4lb mono and a 1/8oz beetle spin.

Looking around on the internet it seems that the tip section breaking read more without any abuse to the rod happens with some regularity on this particular model. Perhaps there was a bad production run of these rods, I don't know. Not sure what is going on with their quality control as Okuma used to be decent gear.

Calling Okuma's customer service line was a joke. I gave up after being on hold for more than 30 minutes. And be forewarned, if you do get ahold of a human and they give you a return authorization, that's only to ship the broken rod to them. They'll want you to pay $19.95 for shipping the replacement rod to you.

Great UL rod at a great price

I normally use the L Celilo rods for trout and decided to try the UL rod for throwing mini jigs on lighter line. I paired it up with the Daiwa QZ750 and 4lb test line. Hooked a 5lb 13oz rainbow trout on the second cast! The supple rod absorbed all the trout had to give and I was able to land the fish. I got the 8' but think the 7'6" would be easier to manage the fish when netting. read more I might try more expensive UL rods to see if there is a difference, but this one works just fine.

I got it for my son (7) and he can cast really far. He catched one pound trout with ease!
I have another okuma but I like this one better because it just cast farder.
