I use this wire to make my king rigs for pier fishing in NC. it is easy to work with. its also pretty strong. I caught a tarpon over 100lbs from a pier using the 61# malin hardwire. there are even directions on the back teaching you to tie the knots needed for this wire.

I saw a video of Roland Martin using the size 15 and 13 and 12 for making up his version of a Tokyo rig. the different wire sizes for different apps. what is the diameter of these sizes of wire, Thanks in advance for your help and info

Is 40lb wire sufficient for pier fishing for 30-40 pound king mackarel, or should I use 61lb wire since we use much higher drag pressures to stop the fish from going around the pilings and kings can get very aggressive at the last minute.

I would go up to 61lb because of the structure 40lb will be enough if you don't want to upsize but the 61lb will help you apply more stopping power to the fish.

How long is this wire? It says 555ft in the description. Is this a spool?

Depending on the lb test you want will determine how many ft you would get with the spool. For example the 61 lb test comes in 3 ft spool and the 80 lb test comes with 289 ft on the spool.

The options are going to be either an albright knot or using a swivel between the braid and wire leader.
