Specializing in long distance casting with heavy weights the Daiwa Tournament Ballistic Surf Rods are uniquely designed for seriously heavy-duty surf fishing applications. These 13 foot 3-piece surf rods are built on extra-strong Daiwa SVF (Super High Volume Fiber) Nanoplus construction blanks that ...offer remarkable strength despite their thin wall and lightweight feel. Through the use of Nano-resin technology SVF Nanoplus blanks are lighter and have increased sensitivity over standard SVF blanks due to their higher carbon density. The three section blank joins together with Daiwas unique V-Joint Technology where the ferrules bend to avoid any rod blank flatness and aids in longer casting abilities. With this design the Tournament Ballistic Surf Rods have an uninterrupted bend for an action that behaves much like a single piece rod. When it comes to components the Tournament Ballistic Surf is equipped with high quality Fuji LC Guides a Daiwa custom reel seat and shrink tube handle grips for a comfortable hold in wet conditions. The rod butt features a removable cap where weights can be added and removed to create a comfortable counter balance point allowing anglers achieve the perfect balance with their spinning reel of choice for easier and more efficient casting. Protective travel rod case included.Features:SVF (Super High Volume Fiber) Nanoplus Construction 3-Piece Even-Split Construction V-Joint Technology Custom Daiwa Reel Seat Fuji LC Guides Shrink Tube Foregrip and Reargrip Protective Travel Rod Case

Decent rod
Good for fishing Cabo San Louis. Haven't had any issues with it. Case is heavy duty to protect the rod.
Does not work well with a spinning reel!
I wanted a rod/reel combo for a long cast to surf fish in Mexico..
Previously i had a 4 piece $74 Fiblink travel rod which performed Ok, (I needed to tighten up the middle section every 30min or it was flying out during the cast). I was able to cast far above the waves at Pedregal beach in Cabo San Lucas.
So, I wanted to increased the casting distance further , to…

hit the rock where I saw yellowtail while spearfishing.. And I came across a good deal on Daiwa Tournament Ballistic rod TNBA33-405G with the idea of pairing it with Daiwa Basia QD45 reel.
Daiwa advertises this rod as Spinning AND Conventional reel compatible I was suspicious right away as I saw how small the line guides are.
So I took it to the beach today with Okuma vs 65 reel spooled with Daiwa j-braid 40lbs. Right away I got 5 wind knots which never happened before..
During the cast the first line guide creates a "vortex" of line and I could hear a sound of line rubbing against the line guide..Very strange that Rod's first line guide that is installed in the middle of the middle section is surprisingly small for a spinning rod. Take a look at the photos..
A lot of Money For a Carry Case and a Poorly Wrapped Butt
I own 4 of these rods. The older models did not come with a worthless carry case, and the butts on the older rods were completely protected with a full wrapping. The newer rods throw as well as the older models, but the fluff that comes with the new rods are not worth the extra costs. If considering this rod, I would suggest buying the blank and having it built to your needs. The… read more bare, unprotected butt section on my newer rods have become scared and blemished. I plan to re wrap these for better protection. In my opinion, DIAWA has tampered with success and foolishly attempted to fix a wonderful rod that was not broken.
One of the best Red Drum surf rods!
Have now built four(4) of these rods and they are one of the best blanks for east coast red drum surf/pier fishing. Very light and easy to throw. The red paint scheme looks awesome as well. Not a fan of the three-piece design(personal preference) but Daiwa did this one up right, and they are great rods.
That would have to go through Daiwa.

Most of these models are 3pc travel rods, the few 2pc options they have are 50/50 split
Daiwa products come from many different parts of the world, though most of their rods and reels come from China or Japan.
35 - 405 weighs 16 oz's, and 40 - 405 weighs 17.6 oz's.
It does depend on the size of the Sturgeon you will be targeting. I would advise using the 10'6'' model for the style of fishing you ware doing.
Kirk, Hello the 405B is just the blank of the rod. The 405G is the rod built.
