Very Versatile Rod...

Curtis J.

Had this rod for over a year now without any issue. I've fished it inshore for Black Sea Bass and Ling and it handled both easily. Even a bonus 10lb Gator Blue couldn't defeat this rod with 30/30 test/leader combo. Will be putting my AVET JX G2 on it this year for a 2 day Tilefish trip where I plan to use it at night for Tuna. Will be using a 60/50 PR knotted combo. Loved the Win read more Grip so much that I've put it on all of my rods.

Wanted a rod that I could use for heavy inshore, offshore jigging/bottom, and trolling... this bad boy checks all the boxes! Sensitive yet strong, feels great fighting fish, and looks great as well.

These rods are awesome, works great with my power assist reels.

After a couple days of heavy use.

Very nice rod. Daiwa's line ratings are a bit confusing but I find this 76xhf to be ideal in the 50-60lb range. Needs at least 20 lb drag to bend the rod for you. Would not recommend this with 80lb line or trying to fish 35lbs of drag was not heavy enough to turn the head of 150lb tuna. Easy to pull hooks on 30lb fly lined fish.

Great looking and well made rod

I paired this spinning rod (PRTWN76HFS) with a Penn TRQS7 and it performed flawlessly. I liked the rod so much I bought another one (PRTWN76HF) for use with a conventional setup. This is a quality rod that is light weight, very strong, and well priced.

I've been deep sea fishing for 40 plus years and never had a more lite weight or heavy duty rod than this rod, extremely lit weight and all the back bone you'll ever need even in deep drop love it so much I have three two conventional and one spinner by far the best rods I ever owned

Nice rod

This rod is incredible, I waited for this rod to be back in stock and finally got it. It did not disappoint, appealing to the eye, and just a great a rod to cast. That winn grip and the color is just awesome. Paired with a saltist.

Great rod

I'm winter fishing offshore NJ for seabass and cod from 120 -200' of water.  Would you recommend the MH or Heavy?

Alex T 3 years ago

I would recommend the Heavy model, just because you will most likely be consistently using very heavy sinkers to hold bottom.<p>If you would prefer a softer feel then the MH rated rod should hold up to this fishery, especially if you can get away with usi

The Calcutta 400A will make a great pair for the Daiwa Proteus WN 7'6" MHF

Asked by Sepa emayo 4 years ago

What rod is recommended for throwing big poppers?

Sydney 4 years ago

You will be able to throw poppers extremely effectively with a Daiwa Proteus Salt Rod.

Asked by Nathanial 3 years ago

Would you be able to throw 8-10oz weights with the 8’ 10” heavy?

Alex T 3 years ago

Unfortunately we aren't able to find these specs from Daiwa, this generally is a bottom fishing rod and given the specs provided this rod is a beast. It should be able to handle those heavy weights no problem

Asked by Greg 3 years ago

Would the 8 ft medium heavy in either conventional or spinning be good for fishing jetty’s with bait

Alex T 3 years ago

Yes this 8' MH model rod would be perfect for most jetty and pier bait fishing applications

Asked by Tony 4 years ago

Are these ideal for bait fishing from boat for stripers and sturgeons?

Bernie De Graaf 4 years ago

The 8 foot extra heavy would be ideal for sturgeon and the 7'6 mh or heavy would be ideal for stripers from the boat

Asked by young 3 years ago

is 8ft m or mh good for casting lures? and have enough backbone?

Austin Kearney 3 years ago

Either would be good for casting lures. It really just comes down to weight of the lure you're throwing and size class of fish you intend on targeting.

Asked by Chappy 3 years ago

Are these rods only rated for Boat use or can they be used for surfcasting?

Austin Kearney 3 years ago

The 8' may be okay for surf use, but otherwise, I would go with a longer rod for the surf.

Asked by Ron 3 years ago

would the diawa porteus wn76mhf handle 130lb braid?

Brian - TackleDirect Customer Service 2 years ago

Anthony, it should be able to handle 130lb braid, but we certainly would not advise going that high above the rod's listed line rating.
