What should you pack for one trip?
- Licence or required registration; current rules for the exact water
- One rod and reel, with suitable line
- Hooks, floats and non-lead weights for one rig
- One or two bait choices legal for that water
- Pliers, line cutter and landing net
- Personal flotation device, water and weather protection
- Bag for discarded line and rubbish
For ice fishing, use the separate DNR safety guidance and an experienced partner. This general kit is not an ice-safety checklist.
What can stay at home?
Start with one rig you understand. Extra lure types are less useful than a correctly tied connection and legal access.
